Raft Hard Mode: How to Play and Survive

Imagine stepping into a world where survival isn’t just a challenge; it’s an extreme test of your skills and resourcefulness. This is Raft’s Hard Mode, where every decision you make can mean the difference between thriving and being lost at sea.

Raft is a video game where you’re in a big open world and you have to survive. It’s made by a Swedish company called Redbeet Interactive and published by Axolot Games. The game started as a free download in 2016, and then it became available on Steam in 2018.

On June 20, 2022, they finished making the game and took it out of the “early access” phase. In the game, the world is flooded, and you play as a survivor exploring the open sea to find a safe place to live and things you need to survive.

In this article, you can learn about the various modes in the game that change how hard it is and how the game is played. One of these modes is called Hard Mode, and it’s the toughest and most punishing way to play the game.

Raft Hard Mode

When your game character dies, they can’t come back by themselves. They need a friend to put them in a bed to come back to life in the game. As you play the game, there might be more and more sharks, up to five of them, but the fourth and fifth sharks don’t show up very often.

These sharks are tougher to defeat because they have more health points. It takes three attacks from a shark to kill you. Sharks attack the foundations of your raft about every two minutes in the game. If you want to learn how to play Alan Wake 2, you should first check out our gameplay guide for tips and instructions.

It takes about 10 minutes for your thirst to run out, and about 14 minutes for your hunger. When enemies hurt you in the game, it hurts you a bit more than in the normal mode, like 1.2 times more, and when you attack enemies, your attacks are a bit weaker, like they only do 80% of the normal damage. For example, a wooden spear usually deals 5 damage, but in Hard Mode, it only deals 4.

How to Survive Hard Mode?

Hard Mode is not for the faint of heart. It requires a lot of skill, strategy, and patience to survive. Here are some tips that might help you:

  • Reinforce your raft foundations as soon as possible. Sharks will attack your raft more often and destroy it faster.
  • Build a spear and a bow to fend off the sharks. You will need to hit them more times to scare them away or kill them.
  • Collect as many resources as you can from barrels, crates, and debris. You will need them to craft tools, weapons, and equipment.
  • Build a water purifier and a grill to produce fresh water and cooked food. You will need to drink and eat more frequently to avoid starvation and dehydration.
  • Explore islands and underwater areas carefully. You will find useful items, blueprints, and secrets, but also more dangers.
  • Save your game frequently. You never know when something might go wrong.

The Different Game Modes in Raft

Creative Mode in Raft

In creative mode, players can build their dream raft without needing to find any materials. They can make everything they need for free and already know how to do it from the beginning. You can also grow plants and bring in animals, even the really rare ones, whenever you want.

Your raft won’t move, and the shark won’t attack you. You don’t need to worry about getting thirsty or hungry in this mode. However, you won’t earn any achievements while playing in Creative Mode.

When you want to get rid of items, it’s super quick, and you can use a free camera to look around by pressing the “N” key. If you switch from any other game mode to Creative, you’ll still have your items, but you’ll lose the codes for islands and ocean materials, so you won’t be able to use them anymore.

Peaceful Mode in Raft

In Peaceful mode, the game is very safe because no bad things will try to hurt you or damage your stuff. Even when some creatures usually fight back when you bother them, they won’t do that here.

However, there are some creatures like Warthogs and Screechers that might get mad and attack you if you bother them first. But, you don’t need to worry about them exploding or anything like that.

And there’s a creature called a Screecher that’s a bit tricky to hit because it doesn’t attack you, so you have to wait for it to do something before you can fight it. Oh, and Sharks will just keep swimming around and won’t bother you. You can easily complete achievements in Peaceful mode because there are no dangerous creatures around to cause problems.

Easy Mode in Raft

When the player gets defeated, they come back to life with all their stuff. It takes five bites from a Shark to defeat the player. The Shark tries to harm the player’s raft base about every 8 minutes. It takes about 25 minutes for the player to get really thirsty and about 31 minutes to get really hungry. When enemies hurt the player, it’s not as bad as usual; they only take 70% of the regular damage.

Normal Mode in Raft

When your character in the game dies, they can come back to life, but they’ll lose everything they were carrying. However, if a friend rescues them and takes them to a bed, they can keep their items.

It takes three attacks from a shark to make your character die. Sharks attack your raft’s foundations about every 5 minutes. Your character gets very thirsty in about 15 minutes and very hungry in about 18 minutes. If you want to learn how to play Lies of P, you can find helpful information in our gameplay guide.

The best way to choose your Raft Mode is to consider what kind of gameplay you prefer and what level of difficulty you enjoy. If you want to relax and create, go for Creative Mode. If you want to explore and build without combat, go for Peaceful Mode.

If you want to survive and fight with less challenge, go for Easy Mode. If you want to survive and fight with a balanced challenge, go for Normal Mode. If you want to survive and fight with high challenge, go for Hard Mode.

You can also use mods to customize your Raft experience further. Mods are modifications that add new features or change existing ones in the game. For example, you can use mods to activate cheats, such as God Mode, Infinite Resources, or No Clip. You can also use mods to add new items, enemies, biomes, or quests. To use mods, you need to download a mod loader from RaftModding.com.
